Japan Powder Metallurgy Association

Japan Powder Metallurgy Association was founded on April 30, 1956. About 70 manufacture and sales institution join the association today.

As its primary goal, Japan Powder Metallurgy Association performs business activities for their member, promotes each member's voluntary business activities, and helps improve their economic status in the society based on the philosophy of mutual cooperation.

Introduce JPMA Awards

Japan Powder Metallurgy Association Awards was established in 1979 as a part of the project to enhance the Powder metallurgy industry.

JPMA wards has three categories; 'Lifetime Achievement Awards' for people who contribute to industry businesses, 'New Products Awards' to award new products of powder metal, and 'Equipment Development Awards' for excellent manufacturing equipment.

'New Products Awards' further divided into. 'Designing', 'Material', and 'Development of Product method'. Starting from 2003, the association established 'Association Awards' to award the most excellent nominee of each award category, chosen by committee.

JPMA also awards the most unique applicants outside of committee selection as 'Effort Prize'.

High wear resistant Fe-sintered alloy slider for high speed trains

Outstanding improvement of the performance which realized about 40% longer life along with reduction of wear of the mating trolley wire, was evaluated. As such an achievement is only possible with PM at this moment, the firm PM technology which is difficult to be replaced by other technology is recognized as contribution to the industry.

Anti-adhesive wear properties improved matrix-toughened seat, valve material

Improvement of anti-adhesive wear resistance by means of dispersion strengthening with micro fine hard particles in the matrix along with hard particles is a new and unique idea.
The performance and cost were also significantly improved. Commercial production of 150,000/month has been achieved and further growth is expected.

This technology realized short total process time of 44 minutes from compacting to sizing, including the reduction of sintering time. The originality of the compact production line was evaluated.

Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy was founded in May, 1958. The purpose of the association is to promote and connect each research regarding powder and powder metallurgy and help improvements of academic and technical development.

Introduction of events
Besides meetings for research presentation in every spring and fall, the association holds lectures and symposiums. Also, in the introduction class for powder metallurgy, the association offers lectures to discuss basics and future opportunities of Powder Metallurgy.
Publications
Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy publishes academic journal, "Powder and Powder Metallurgy" and academic books. The association also accepts submission by for special issues.
Association Awards
The association confers awards to excellent basic research, development of techniques, and persons who accomplished works in the field of Powder and Powder Metallurgy.
Branch councils
Activities of branch councils are divided into 7 categories; basic sintering, rigid material, magnetic materials, and others. Each council holds research workshops to discuss recent research outcomes and future prospects, and exchange information and debate
